Cooking

Learning to cook is a basic skill that can be taught through patience, to give someone a great deal of confidence, independence and joy. It is a skill that everyone can learn, regardless of ability, and gives people an opportunity to be creative and incorporate other skills, such as literacy and numeracy, when reading recipes and using measurements.

In our program, clients will focus on practicing their cooking skills such as cutting, mixing and kneading. They will also learn to appropriately use utensils and other applications. Through different recipes, they will explore various ingredients by using their senses of smell, sight, taste and touch, as well as exploration of other cultures through traditional cuisines from around the world.

Beyond the skill set that is taught in our learning programs, our teaching staff will encourage our learners to try new things and show them the benefits of how they can apply these skills in everyday life, increasing their own independence and enjoyment.

While some of our clients may want to learn these tools for day-to-day use at home to become more self-sufficient, some others find it fun and enjoyable to explore different textures and flavours.
